Through the eyes of two brothers and their fellow performers, the film traces an unlikely journey—from ordinary American childhoods to the world’s most prestigious stages—where rigorous artistic training and spiritual conviction shape both their craft and their character.
As Shen Yun tours internationally, the company becomes the target of escalating smear campaigns, threats, and alleged interference linked to the Chinese Communist Party. Blending personal storytelling with investigative reporting, UNBROKEN reveals what happens when art, faith, and freedom collide with authoritarian power—and how resilience, community, and cultural revival endure in the face of intimidation.

Fiona Young
DIRECTOR
Fiona Young is a New York–based documentary filmmaker whose work explores overlooked histories, cultural memory, and the human cost of political power. In UNBROKEN: The Untold Story of Shen Yun, Young blends investigative reporting with cinematic storytelling to illuminate stories that remain hidden or misunderstood.
Drawing on a background in theater and narrative storytelling, Young brings a character-driven approach to documentary filmmaking. Her previous work includes the documentaries The Final War and Millennium Willow.
Steve Lance
EXECUTIVE PRODUCER
Steve Lance is an Executive Producer with Sincere Pictures, where he focuses on investigative documentaries and cinematic storytelling rooted in real-world events. In UNBROKEN: The Untold Story of Shen Yun, Lance leads the film’s investigative narrative, examining threats, sabotage attempts, and the broader campaign targeting the performing arts company.
Drawing on his background as an investigative journalist and Vice President of NTD Television, Lance has reported extensively on issues related to U.S.–China relations and foreign influence operations. Based in Washington, D.C., his work sits at the intersection of journalism and filmmaking, bringing rigorous reporting and narrative depth to stories about power, truth, and resilience.
Penny Zhou
PRODUCER & WRITER
Penny Zhou is a Producer and Writer with Sincere Pictures, where she develops investigative documentaries and narrative-driven films based on real-world events. In UNBROKEN: The Untold Story of Shen Yun, Zhou helped shape the film’s investigative narrative, drawing on her experience uncovering complex stories involving media, culture, and geopolitical influence.
She previously produced the award-winning documentary Hollywood Takeover: China’s Control in the Film Industry and served as an investigative journalist for Final War, a feature documentary examining the Chinese Communist Party’s global ambitions. Zhou has also reported extensively on leaked documents and whistleblower accounts.
